Julianna was awarded the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) Short-Term Fellowship allowing her to pursue her independently designed project studying hourglass treefrogs (Dendropsophus ebraccatus) during the summer! She spent 10 weeks in the rainforest working on her project testing female phonotaxis behavior, and while this required a lot of troubleshooting, she is very grateful to those that supported her and offered feedback. She also is extremely grateful for the invaluable support and guidance she received while she was hosted by the Bat Lab and the friendships she made during those 10 weeks. She hopes to return in the near future!

Our primary goal is to understand the processes that shape evolutionary trajectories. We focus on the mechanisms of convergent evolution of behavioral and morphological traits. We link molecular, neural, and developmental mechanisms to their consequences for organismal phenotypes, and we investigate the neural and hormonal mechanisms of context- or experience-dependent changes in behavior.
